Reading the reviews here it seems to be a common issue. I like this one because it has a variable temperature and the plastic housing stays cool. I used it lightly for over a year and then on one day of heavy continuous use (about 20-30 minutes) it just died. Knowing that now (as I place my order for a second one) I will know that it can only be used for shorter durations and that it requires time to cool in between. The same thing happened with my shredder when I tried to over use it (continuous for 30 minutes), so it is just one of those items that has to be used in a cycle of 10min on/10min off.
I BOUGHT THIS ITEM FOR USE IN AUTOMOTIVE, EXACTLY TO PLACE DYNAMAT IN CARS, WICH MEANS A LOT OF HOURS RUNNING AND TOTAL HEAT, AND WORKS PERFECTLY. CAMES WITH CASE AND ALL THINGS NECESARY, BUT I ONLY USE THE FOCUS ONE OR SOMETIMES WIDER. IT WILL BE BETTERS, BUT THIS WORKS GREAT FOR ME AND FOR THE PRICE.
I have only used this heat gun twice and it worked fine each time for me. It didn't get as hot as I would have expected but worked properly for heating up my Xbox 360 motherboard.
I bought this Black and Decker heat gun to use for encaustic painting. I have just learned the cheap power tool lesson. I have actually bought this same heat gun 3 times and the third one just died on me. I'm a slow learner, I suppose. Cheap power tools are a false economy. Now I have to buy my fourth heat gun, and it will definitely NOT be a Black and Decker.
This was absolutely horrible. THe very first time we used it it broke with in 10 seconds. Unfortunately it was after the 30 day mark from when we bought it here.
